The standard expression is Logotype, where logo means brand, this is the graphic element and type means written part carrying the message, for example company or service name.
That's why Logo must be original but simple in order to be legible. Easy to distinguish and easy to remember to fulfill its primary purpose. Do not forget that Logo is your first sale assistant. Your clients meet your Logo before they meet anybody from your company. It's the first thing visible from your promotion. Therefore it should represent you fully and seriously.
From this point of view the Logo can be anything. It can be tastefully picked letter font, letters completed with image, emblem, sketch ĦŮ What is important that Logo does not breach any conditions that would keep it from its wide-spectral use.
